Stars of Restaurant Week: Date Night Sushi
For many people, sushi and date night are practically synonymous. A multicourse meal of sushi allows for easy conversation, lends itself to sharing and is often impressively presented.
Since Orange County Restaurant Week introduced Date Night Week menus several years ago, the category’s sushi offerings have become among its more popular. The county’s largest culinary celebration continues through Saturday.
Bluefin at Crystal Cove Shopping Center is known for exquisite sushi and Euro-Japanese entrees. Design touches include a blue waterfall and an illuminated sushi bar. Its six-course Date Night menu for two brings mixed tempura basket, sashimi salad, Chilean seabass, clam miso soup, six styles of sushi, dessert and a bottle of house white or red wine ($120). That menu without wine runs $45 per person.
Sushi Roku’s Premium Izakaya Feast – $150 per person, two people minimum – is listed among Restaurant Week’s Luxe Week menus, but it might warrant a new category: Dream Date Night Week. Highlights include fluke kumquat; toro carpaccio with osetra caviar; hanabi crispy rice and spicy tuna; stone-grilled A5 Japanese Wagyu; sushi nigiri courses chu-toro and Wagyu; the elaborate White Lotus roll; and dessert.
