This summer, the most groundbreaking jazz musicians in Los Angeles push the boundaries of 21st-century sound … in Newport Beach. 

Live on the Lawn, a six-event series curated by L.A.-based ETA Presents, takes place on select Saturdays, 4 to 7 p.m., beginning June 13. Styles range from neo-soul and hard bop to electro-acoustic experimentation. 

Fashion Island’s Neiman Marcus-Bloomingdale’s Courtyard provides the venue. 

Guitarist Jeff Parker and percussionist John Davis join organist Wil Blades for the opening event, a tribute to Blades’ mentor, the legendary jazz organist Lonnie Smith.

Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Danny Janklow and his Elevation Band promise a high-octane set blending funk, modern jazz and improvisation on June 20.

Jazz guitarists Adam Levy and Molly Miller join forces for Millstone Reverie, June 27, a program blending modern jazz and Americana storytelling.

Bassist Alex Schwarz leads her eponymous trio in original compositions as well as sophisticated improvisations on July 18.

Drawing on his deep ties to the New York scene, drummer Shawn Baltazor leads an all-star quintet July 25 in a celebration of legendary jazz pianist James Williams.

The Daniel Rotem Quintet, led by saxophonist Rotem, caps the season Aug.1, using both standards and originals to explore the spirit of today’s L.A. jazz movement.

Between sets, enjoy vinyl and rare-groove deejay jams. 

Attendees can bring blankets and purchase grab-and-go meals from restaurants including 59th & Lex, Mendocino Farms and Scratch Bakery Cafe. Bloomingdale’s will offer snacks and refreshments from its beverage cart.
