Luxe pickleball wear: new J. Pritchard at Fashion Island

There’s tennis wear and golf wear and countless places to buy each. But despite the exponential growth of pickleball’s popularity, there hasn’t been a retail destination focusing primarily on pickleball wear – never mind luxury pickleball wear – until the J. Pritchard flagship store opened at Fashion Island.

The J. Pritchard motto: “Steeped in legacy, designed for performance.” The lore: On a summer day in 1965, Joel Pritchard and his friends came back to his home on Bainbridge Island after a day on the golf course. Cobbling together elements of various court sports, Pritchard invented a new game; his wife, Joan, dubbed it pickleball.

The line’s founders, twins Darren and Steve Gable, are former professional beach volleyball players who, having discovered pickleball, recognized its lack of dedicated apparel. They created the brand in partnership with the family of Joel and Joan Pritchard.

The logo melds the initials JP, a pickleball paddle, a golf ball and tee and an oar. Timeless looks in classic colors work equally well on the court or for mingling over a cool drink post-game. Performance fabrics feature four-way stretch, moisture-wicking properties and easy breathability. Most popular: the Icon shorts for men, Legacy skirt for women, 5.0 tops for both … and high-end pickleball paddles.
