French Riviera flair: American Vintage at Fashion Island

Where is the fashion brand American Vintage based? The South of France.
The retailer, now marking its 20th year, has its headquarters just outside Marseilles. Think American streetwear and California cool with French sensibility and French Riviera flair.
American Vintage offers elevated basics for men, women and children — casual, comfortable and inflected with vintage references. Its airy boutique at Fashion Island is opposite RH.
The anniversary collection is unisex and maximalist and features patches and logos: branded ecru denim, oversized blazers, mega T-shirts and maxi puffer jackets. Wool, linen and cotton are the defining fibers.
House of Colors is the company’s own moniker; colors are always a focus. This year the shades range from gentle — celadon, butter and pastel pink — to deeper hues such as midnight blue, burgundy and khaki. There’s also a vibrant grass green.
The company’s recent brand campaigns have shifted from using models to nonprofessionals.
“Our clothes help people show their true selves,” says designer Michaël Azoulay, American Vintage founder and CEO. “We help them take a step into the spotlight instead of hiding. It also boosts our creativity and open-mindedness.”
