Cool. Calm. Caffeinated: Joe & the Juice

Millennial magnet Joe & the Juice, founded in Copenhagen nearly a quarter century ago by former karate champion Kaspar Basse, has grown to 300 locations around the world.

Its first location in Orange County is at Fashion Island.

The company is known for cold-pressed juices, smoothies and shakes – fresh-blended and customizable, using organic ingredients sourced directly from growers – as well as coffee and sandwiches.

Pink is in the brand’s DNA, extending to its pink logo and often pink packaging. The Pick Me Up and Power Shake, each using strawberries and banana, skew pink. But beverages also include the Prince of Green and Green Sport, both featuring pineapple, cucumber and olive oil.

Among creative iced and hot espresso- or matcha-based drinks is the seasonal Cardamom Winter espresso. Big Matcha Energy stars among “functional shakes.” Also on the menu: overnight oats and acai bowls.

Truly distinctive sandwiches are served on a thin and crunchy flatbread using whole wheat rye imported from Denmark. Consider the virally popular Tunacado or the Joe’s Club with chicken.

The equally distinctive sandwich packaging – “All Pink, No Plastic” – opens with a paper “zipper” and famously aligns with the brand’s aesthetic and commitment to sustainability.
